S2.1 Transplantation through the lens of a pediatric liver patient

Biography

At 15, Isabella Arlt was suddenly diagnosed with liver failure. Just three weeks later, she received a life-saving transplant at Texas Children’s Hospital; a gift from a donor she will never meet but will honor forever. Now on the cusp of graduating high school, Bella reflects on the past four years. Through every challenge, she has emerged with a sense of purpose. Grateful for her second chance, Bella has made it her mission to raise awareness about the power of organ donation and the hope it brings to families like hers. In 2025, she was named the American Liver Foundation’s Pediatric LIVEr Champion, a role that allows her to share her story, inspire others, and carry forward her donor’s legacy of generosity and love. Bella’s story is about transformation. From ICU patient to advocate, she embodies the impact of organ donation and the strength of the human spirit. Her voice serves as a reminder that even in life’s most uncertain moments, hope can take root and grow into something extraordinary.
